The good times are back. For nerds that is. Nothing like visiting the world of Star Wars once more. I could not help but to laugh with all the internet hype about Kylo Ren being Luke Skywalker.
However I can understand why people would think Luke would turn to the dark side. Like father like son they say. Why not? But then there is a major problem if the writer of episode 7 decided that Luke would be on the dark side. A problem that I will talk about in this article to challenge the fans.
But please don’t misunderstand me. I love the new Star Wars movie especially the fact that George Lucas did not direct the movie at all. Instead, the man decided that it was time for someone else to pick up where he left off. So lets start with the good stuff first.
1. The characters
The characters were fun and to watch their development was different from the other Star Wars movie. I love the fact that the movie did not start with the main character. Finn was awesome and what made this character so freaking cool is that he escaped the First Order. A storm trooper betraying his leader. That alone made the beginning of the story so exciting. We were immediately thrown into action from the very beginning, which the fans appreciate. Instead of making the fans wait for the action to start like episode 4 (A new hope).
Rey. By the gods. I love Rey. I love warrior women and her clothing were similar to a Jedi’s clothing. It reminds me of Anakin Skywalker’s mother in episode one (Phantom Menace). I believe that she has to be the daughter of Luke Skywalker. There is just no way she is not. A loner in the desert, already a fighter. I love her. She had a strong will and when she resisted against Kylo Ren oh god I ended up at the edge of my seat. That had to be the coolest mental battle using the force. She is a gifted Jedi in the making, a prodigy. At first (especially because of the trailer) I thought Finn was going to become a Jedi. However, the moment Rey rejected the call from the light-saber that is when I knew “she is either Luke daughter” and “she already has potential to be a Jedi.” Which is why we watch Star Wars.
I believe that the title of the movie was called: The Force Awakens, because of Rey. She was able to use the force without any training at all. Somehow she knew. Perhaps intuition or like I said she is Luke’s daughter therefore she inherit the gift. I mean think about it. Anakin Skywalker was already gifted when he was found in planet Tatooine. Qui-Gon Jinn said that Anakin had a high potential of being a Jedi. The directors planned this out very well. But for now it is just a theory, a film theory.
The ending of the movie was perfect and Han Solo explained well why Luke was hiding for so long.
When he removed the first thing that came to mind was “what is young Severus Snape doing in Star Wars?” Now if you understood that Harry Potter reference you will understand what I mean. The guy just looks too much like Snape and the fact that he was a bad guy did not help either. Overall I think Kylo Ren made an awesome bad guy and the fact that he killed his father, Han Solo, made it even more dramatic.
Of course the director had to pull a George RR. Martin and kill everyone’s favorite comic relieve character. Right after Han died I thought Chubaka was going to die to (You know, to join his buddy). It was sad and unexpected but it was an incredible plot device to get fans hype up for the second movie. (Another point for you JJ Abrams).
Of course there always has to be a student that turns to the dark side, you know. Han Solo’s son, Kylo Ren, was trained by Luke Skywalker. After whomever had brainwashed Ren into the dark side, Luke felt guilty like the good guy he is and went into hiding. So Luke decided to follow in the footsteps of his friend Obi-Wan. Very smart dude. But hey, who am I too judge. Luke was always a sensitive dude.
I love the idea of Luke hiding. My only question in the movie was, “why did R2D2 started working towards the end all of a sudden?” It made no sense to me. There was no explanation to that. What triggered his circuits is what I want to know.
Oh, and I had no idea that light-sabers were enchanted with the force. Because it is a Jedi weapon I accepted the fact that it caused Rey to have visions.
Now BB-8 I would dare say, I like him more than R2D2. WHY? Because he is just more fun. Yeah that is right I said it. BB-8 was the shit because not only was he a key element in the story but the fact that he was round made the action that much more incredible. R2D2 was smarter I will admit but I love BB-8 simply because his shape gave him more of an advantage of movement everywhere he went thus making him more active. I love the fact that everyone was trying to get him. R2D2 was a great droid but he was more of a pet in the previous Star Wars movies. Fans are going to hate me for saying this but hey, I am entitled to my opinion. Right.
So go BB-8 you are the new award winning droid. Although I feel as though BB-8 was aimed more to the younger crowd which is cool.
What fans wont admit.
My question for the next movie is, what is Luke going to do about Kylo Ren and the First Order. He cant just continue to hide and let the new generation handle it. There are literally no Jedis. And that is what disliked about episodes 4, 5, and 6. Think about it. The reason why we watch Star Wars is because of the Jedi. Now that is my general believe about the fandom. As far as ships flying in space shooting laser beams, well…we have Star Trek for that.
Many people hate the prequels with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi but the great thing about episode 1, 2, and 3 is that THERE WERE SO MANY JEDI. Is the Jedi that makes Star Wars unique. Is the Jedi that make Star Wars stand out from other freaking scifi movies for crying out loud. Is the Jedi and the idea of the force the reason why we watch Star Wars and it really hurts me to see that there is like……no Jedis around when there is trouble.
Look back at the fight with Count Dooku, Anakin and Obi-Wan. Look back at the fights with Qui-Gon, Mace Windu, Yoda, and countless others. In fact, look at the 3D animated series of Star Wars, it revolved around the “Attack of Clones” saga with Anakin and other Jedis. No Jedi, no Star Wars. Plain and simply.
Even if the Jedi temple was destroyed, it would be awesome if the director decided that “at least seven or six Jedis survived.” You know what I mean. that way it would not be so freaking lonely. I am not saying that the other characters dont matter but Jesus F***** Christ, let there be more Jedis.
Anyways, I rate the Force Awakens
Movie rating 9.5 out of 10
